Janie Schildge our walk coordinator opened this year's summer meeting with a quote from a Franciscan Benediction.
"And may God bless us with just enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in the world, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done: to bring justice and kindness to all our children and all our neighbors who are poor."
We met to continue planning for our 30th Hunger Walk in Red Bank. Committee members shared information on visits to our local partners. A common theme mentioned highlighted that all our area food pantries and partner agencies are working harder than ever to cope with the increased numbers of families struggling to meet housing and food needs. In letters requesting funds from CROP all local partners expressed gratitude and hope that CROP will be able to continue to help them meet the demands in their tightened budgets.
It is hoped that everyone will try to get our walk date into their church and school newsletters and encourage people to learn more about the walk through our blog.
We also discussed sponsors, t-shirt design, food collection, walk safety, the art contest, our new blog and Facebook. We're trying to use all kinds of communication this year to spread the word about our hunger in our local communities and how we can help.
Church World Service has many wonderful articles on their website which you can link to through our blog to learn about global partners. We will posting additional information in the coming weeks.
