Last year our Red Bank CROP Walkers far surpassed the goal of 8,000 lbs that our coordinating committee set for the food collection. Walkers stepped it up and brought 11,000 lbs of peanut butter rice and beans last year. Donated food was distributed to nearly 20 local food pantries. This year for our 31st annual hunger walk we've set a goal of 12,000 lbs. Our local partner programs continue to see an increased need for the assistance they provide for our neighbors struggling here in Monmouth County. Students from Christian Brothers Academy will be there early ready to sort, count and distribute the donated food all before the end of the day. Look for the blue tarps set out on the grass in front of Red Bank Regional High School next Sunday Oct. 16th. Registration for the walk starts at 12:30. Walk start is 1:30 CARE ENOUGH TO BE THERE.
Tonight PBS WHYY is broadcasting a special "Growing Hope Against Hunger" at 7 PM Their new efforts are using the Muppets to help end hunger one Muppet at a time. We were lucky to have Elmo at our walk last year. He says, "Elmo never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from." We were lucky to have Elmo at our hunger walk last year thanks to a donation by Chubby Penguin Parties. Rumor has it Sponge Bob might show up this year.
